When I received my first Rolfing® series, I was amazed by how good it felt, how much I learned about myself, and how fast bodies and habits could change. This potential for changing the way that we experience ourselves is what drew me to become a Rolfer™.

Although it's satisfying helping people get out of pain, it's not the best part of my job. What feeds my soul is helping people to feel at home in their bodies: teaching people how to find ease and stay relaxed as they go about their daily lives. Helping people who feel broken regain a sense of wholeness. Guiding the discovery of how good walking can feel when your joints and fasciae are free from restrictions. Watching people who have hated, feared, ignored and mistreated their bodies develop a joyful relationship with their physical selves.

I grew up in Bellingham, Washington in a family that strongly valued healthy living. Growing up, I spent a lot of time reading, hiking, training in Aikido (a non-violent martial art) practicing yoga and acrobatics, climbing trees, playing music, and dancing. My vigorous commitments to education, exercise, personal growth and community involvement were all motivated by joy and curiosity more than a sense of duty.

Shortly after earning my BA in Psychology from The Evergreen State College in 2002, I was introduced to Rolfing® Structural Integration and was surprised by how much it taught me about myself, even after years of practicing mindful embodiment. I was struck by its power to create lasting changes. Knowing that I wanted a career helping people to increase their quality of life and self-awareness, I eventually decided to move to Boulder, Colorado to attend the Rolf Institute® of Structural Integration (now renamed the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute). I have been a full-time self-employed Rolfer™ ever since graduating from basic Rolfer training in 2010.

Personal delights include dancing, singing, practicing acrobatics, yoga, hiking, running, cycling, rock climbing, skate skiing, cooking, vegetable gardening, reading, writing, and relaxing in the sun.

I love teaching for the joy of watching people learn, as well as for the increased clarity it gives me. In my work as a Rolfer, this manifests in offering tidbits of relevant anatomical, physiological, or psychological studies. It's great when my clients ask questions and take an active roll in optimizing their function.

My Rolfing practice is inspiring, satisfying, and continuously growing. I value curiosity and so welcome your questions about the Rolfing process.

areas of study

As a human and as a Rolfer™, I am deeply committed to ongoing study and personal growth. I am interested in developing the concept of wellness as not just the absence of disease, but as a state of vitality, vibrancy, resiliency, and self-actualization. My academic interests include: neurology and physiology, anatomy and coordination, philosophy and healing, trauma and personal growth, mythology and literature, existentialism and the fine arts, psychology and attention, language and perception, relationship and communication.

In the future, I hope to get involved with research on the effectiveness of Rolfing® Structural Integration with regard to eating disorders and body dysmorphia, depression, anxiety, task-specific coordination, dystonia, scoliosis, sciatica, arthritis, cerebral palsy, as well as further identifying effects on healthy individuals.
